Learn how to choose the correct operation and solve word problems. Operations used will be addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
In this course, the student will first review additive and multiplicative fact families. The student will recognize patterns that help discern which values and which operation to use for each problem. Finally, the student will solve, and of course, check their work! #4 in Mrs. Becker's Intermediate Math Series (Followed by "Exponents") Mrs. Becker's Intermediate Math Series is designed for math students in approximately 5th through 6th grade. Each class consists of a lesson including visuals and problems to work through together and independently.
1. Review additive fact families and how each role in the family compares to the others. Recognize patterns in word problems that lead us to use addition and subtraction to solve. Identify word problems with an additive relationship. 2. Review multiplicative fact families. Practice moving values into their correct position in the fact family. Learn to recognize clues in word problems that lead us to use addition and subtraction to solve. 3. Determine whether a word problem has an additive or a multiplicative relationship. Solve. 4. Solve multi-step problems with additive and multiplicative operations.
