Visit the Land of Virtues to learn more about character-building virtues such as grace, hope, patience. Learn how to draw and personalize your own porcupine, hedgehog, turtle and other animals to remind you throughout the week of the virtue learned in class.
Gracie the Porcupine, Hopie the Hedgehog, Tommy the Turtle and their friends Gatsby, Callie, and Harvey, have much to teach us about the virtues of grace, hope, patience, gratitude, courage, and honesty as they navigate friendship in the Land of Virtues. "Gracie is a porcupine who pricks her way through life. She pricks at this and pricks at that⎯she's always causing strife. "Why did you do it that way?" Gracie asks, when her friends do something wrong. She makes them feel so terrible that they aren't her friends for long. "One day when she was all prickled up, Gracie heard a soft voice from within..." Join us in class week one to hear the rest of this original story and in future weeks for other stories like it. Each story has a happy ending. During each story, learners will draw a picture. After each story, we will read a scripture verse and briefly discuss how we can apply that particular virtue in our own lives. This is a great way for learners to practice listening comprehension and conversation skills. We will also learn how to draw a porcupine, hedgehog, turtle, gopher, caterpillar, and hare, adding personal characteristics to make each animal unique. Perhaps the animals drawn by your children will inspire them to create their own animal stories! At the end of class, learners will have the opportunity to showcase their finished animal drawings during Show-and-Tell. Scripture, stories, and art provide fun and memorable ways to build character. We hope to see you in class! Watch for Part Two in this series of devotionals as it grows.
