Monsters need vacations too! In this 2-day creative class, students will plan, budget, and persuade others to visit their Monster Vacation Resort. They’ll practice math with Monster Bucks, learn persuasive writing by creating a travel brochure, and build or draw a 3-D model of their spooky-fun destination!
Welcome to the Monster Vacation Resort Project! In this two-day, hands-on learning adventure, kids will use math, writing, and creativity to design the ultimate getaway for friendly monsters. On Day 1, students become resort planners with 50 Monster Bucks to spend on slime spas, bat flight courses, and more. They’ll practice addition and subtraction to stay under budget and begin drafting a persuasive travel brochure using catchy slogans and descriptive language. On Day 2, they’ll bring their resort to life through a model or detailed drawing, then share their brochure in a lively “Monster Pitch.” It’s the perfect mix of STEM, writing, and imagination, and a fun way to practice real academic skills in disguise! 💡 Academic Considerations: - Math: addition and subtraction within 50 (We will learn and practice together, but students should know how to add and subtract double-digit numbers before class.) - Writing: persuasive techniques, descriptive language, and brochure layout. (Students should be able to write full sentences to create their brochure.) - Design: hands-on creative thinking, labeling, and presentation (Students may opt out of presenting if they are uncomfortable with public speaking. I do provide a kind and supportive environment.)
🧟♂️ Theme: This class uses friendly, silly monsters (think colorful cartoon characters — not scary or gory). There are no horror elements, jump scares, or references to scary things! 💬 Tone: The focus is on creativity, problem-solving, and humor. Students design resorts that might include playful features like “Slime Spa,” “Bat Flight Course,” or “Worm Café.” All ideas are kept lighthearted and age-appropriate. 👧 Materials Safety: Students may use scissors, glue, and small craft materials during the build portion. Adult supervision is recommended.
Day 1 – Plan It Like a Monster! - Icebreaker & brainstorm: What do monsters like to do on vacation? - Math activity: Use “Monster Bucks” to plan resort features (addition & subtraction). - Persuasive writing mini-lesson: catchy slogans, strong adjectives, and reasons to visit. - Begin creating the Monster Resort Brochure (front cover + attraction ideas). Day 2 – Build It & Pitch It! - Quick review: math warm-up and design recap. - Build or draw the Monster Vacation Resort using simple materials. - Add finishing touches to the brochure (slogan, details, illustrations). - Present the resort to the class during the “Monster Resort Pitch!”
