Learn the basics of poetry writing while creating your own unique poetry. Class includes the structure, elements, and types of poetry, as well as creative poetry writing projects.
Poetry writing has increasingly become a fun hobby for children and teens. This class is a basic introduction to the world of poetry writing. Information shared in this class will include: • Structure of poetry (stanza, line length, consistency) • Elements of Poetry (assonance, alliteration, consonance, onomatopoeia, etc.) • Types of poems (haiku, concrete, epigram, free verse, narrative) Students will use the information learned in the first class to practice writing different forms of poetry in classes two through six. Students will be encouraged to make the world a better place with their poetry by aligning their poetry with the values of the WonderWell community: courage, faithfulness, goodness, kindness, knowledge, respect, virtue, etc. Time will be allotted at the end of each class for students to share their poetry, if desired. This class is intended to be relaxing, encouraging, and fun. Students will be encouraged to make "mistakes" as they grow in courage and creativity throughout this six week poetry-writing adventure.
