Learn to multiply and divide fractions.

Course Description

In this course, the student will learn to multiply and divide fractions. At times, the student will convert from mixed numbers to improper fractions in order to solve. The student will generate reciprocals when dividing and simplify their answers. #10 in Mrs. Becker's Intermediate Math Series (Followed by "Comparing Decimals") Mrs. Becker's Intermediate Math Series is designed for math students in approximately 5th through 6th grade. Each class consists of a lesson including visuals and problems to work through together and independently.

Syllabus

1. Multiply fractions by whole numbers with and without models. 2. Multiply fractions by fractions without models. Evaluate fractions with exponents. 3. Multiply fractions, including mixed numbers. 3. Recognize patterns when dividing by fractions. Define reciprocal and compare with its original number. 4. Divide fractions by whole numbers with and without models. 5. Divide fractions by fractions without models. 6. Divide fractions, including mixed numbers. 7. Review multiplying and dividing fractions. 8. Solve word problems involving multiplying and dividing fractions.
