An ongoing high school book club reading and discussing classic literature through a Christian perspective. Weekly sessions include literary analysis, faith-based insights, and rich student-led discussion.
This ongoing book club invites high school students (or junior high students who are able to read these books) to explore the great works of classic literature through thoughtful discussion and a Christian worldview. Each month, students will dive into a classic novel or series of short stories, examining themes of truth, virtue, human nature, and redemption. We will consider the historical and cultural context of each work, analyze literary elements, and discuss how a biblical lens shapes our understanding of characters, morality, and meaning. This club meets weekly while students read their way through the book or stories of the month. Students are encouraged to share insights, ask questions, and engage in respectful dialogue. The class helps develop reading comprehension, literary analysis, and critical thinking—while fostering a love for great books and timeless ideas. New members are welcome anytime! Students are welcome to check out the reading list ahead of time and work their way through the books. Book List (Spring 2026 - more sessions to come) 📖 March 31 - April: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee 📖 May: The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
This course includes classic works that often tackle mature themes such as racism (To Kill a Mockingbird), scientific ethics and emotional trauma (Flowers for Algernon), violence and death (The Most Dangerous Game, The Call of the Wild by Jack London), dystopian control (The Giver), and spiritual warfare (The Screwtape Letters). Some stories contain dated language, disturbing events, or morally complex situations. All content will be presented and discussed thoughtfully, with care and discernment from a Christian worldview.
